Every approval a college claims can be checked by you, free, on a government website, in about twenty minutes. Here is exactly where to look — for us, and for anyone else you are considering.
Most students check one thing and stop. For any professional course there are two separate approvals, from two separate bodies, and a college can hold one without the other.
University affiliation — who awards your degree. A college does not award degrees, a university does. In Karnataka, health sciences colleges are affiliated to RGUHS; arts, science, commerce and management colleges to a general university such as Bangalore City University. Affiliation is what makes your marks card and degree certificate real documents.
Council approval — whether you can work with that degree. For regulated professions a second body approves the specific programme and institution: Indian Nursing Council for nursing, NCAHP for allied health, Bar Council of India for law, AICTE for management and technical programmes. Without this, you may hold a valid degree and still be unable to register and practise.
The gap that catches people out. A college can be affiliated to a university while a particular programme is not approved by the relevant council — or was approved for an earlier year and not renewed. Always check the approval for your course, in your admission year.

Indian Nursing Council recognised institutions list, for your academic year. Then confirm state recognition with the Karnataka State Nursing Council.
NCAHP and the State Allied and Healthcare Council. Plus RGUHS affiliation for the college.

Bar Council of India approved institutions — this approval is what allows you to enrol and practise later.
That the university itself is recognised — and is not on the fake list.
VERIFY every URL above before publishing, and re-check every six months — regulator portals move, and the INC list URL is dated by academic year.
03 · Read This Too
Everyone looks for a college's name on an approved list. Far fewer check the lists of institutions that have been closed, de-recognised, or declared fake.
Institutions calling themselves universities with no legal authority to award any degree. As of the February 2026 notification there were 32, across roughly a dozen states — including Karnataka.
Institutions running technical or management programmes without AICTE approval.
Programmes that have been discontinued. A college may still advertise a course with no current approval.
Do both searches. Find the college on the approved list and confirm it is absent from the closed and unapproved lists — it catches the situation that hurts most: a course approved when the brochure was printed and not approved now.
04 · After Graduation
For nursing and allied health, the degree is only half of it. You also have to register with a professional council before you can legally work.
After qualifying you register with the state nursing council of the state where you studied — for Karnataka, the Karnataka State Nursing Council. The Indian Nursing Council also runs the Nurses Registration and Tracking System, giving every nurse a unique ID.
Allied and healthcare professionals register under the NCAHP framework — on the national Central Register, and with the State Allied and Healthcare Council. This sector is being actively regulated right now, so check the current position.
An LLB alone does not entitle you to appear in court. You enrol with a State Bar Council and clear the All India Bar Examination. Both require your degree to be from a BCI-approved institution.
Ask this question directly: "If I complete this course here, which council will I register with, and has that council approved this programme?" A college that cannot answer that in one sentence is a college to walk away from.
05 · Warning Signs
None of these prove a college is bad. Two or three together are worth taking seriously.
No written fee breakup. A genuine institution gives a year-by-year, itemised fee structure on letterhead before you pay anything.
Pressure to pay today. Real deadlines are published dates, not something told to you on a call.
Payment to a personal account. Fees go to the official account against an official receipt — never to an individual.
Guaranteed job or seat. No institution can guarantee either — placement assistance is real, a placement guarantee is not.
Approval claimed, never evidenced. Ask for the letter or reference number — "we are approved" is not an answer.
Vague on the affiliating university. The college should name it immediately and without qualification.
Can't visit or see the hospital. For any clinical course, ask why if you can't walk through the training facilities.
Nobody knows where last batch went. An institution that trains people should know what happened to them.

Email or WhatsApp, so you have the answer on record. Any institution that will only answer these by phone is telling you something.
Which university awards this degree, and is the college currently affiliated for this course?
Which council approves this programme, and what is the approval reference number?
What is the sanctioned intake for this course this year?
Can you send the year-wise fee structure on letterhead, including exam fees, uniforms and materials?
Is accommodation included, and if not, what does it cost per year?
Which hospitals do students train at, and are they owned by the institution or partners?
When do clinical postings begin — first year or later?
Is the internship arranged by the college, and where?
Where did last year's graduating batch go, and can I speak to a current student?
What is the refund policy if I withdraw before the course begins?

08 · Questions
No, because the phrase is vague. Ask which government body, for which programme, and for the reference number. A society or trust being registered with the state government is not the same as a nursing programme being approved by the Indian Nursing Council.
Almost. Confirm the listing covers your specific course and your admission year, and check the college does not also appear on a closed or unapproved list. Approvals are renewed periodically and can lapse.
Ask the college directly for the approval letter, then verify it with the issuing body using the contact details on that body's official site — not a number the college gives you. If nothing checks out, do not pay.
No. NAAC assesses and grades quality; it does not authorise a college to run a programme or award a degree. A college can be properly approved without a NAAC grade.
No. NEET applies to MBBS, BDS and AYUSH courses. B.Sc Nursing admission is based on 10+2 or PUC marks in Physics, Chemistry and Biology. This does not extend to BPT or allied health — those rules are changing.
It changes nothing about what you should verify, and it adds one thing: confirm the person is authorised by the institution, and pay the institution directly against an official receipt rather than paying the agent.
